every girl dreams of their wedding day. really ah?

ok, I watched rob and amber's wedding on tv. 2 hours of tv when I should have been sleeping or something. all in all it was not bad. planning a wedding in 4 weeks. they made it look so stressful and all that. what would they have done without the celebrity planner? reminds me of my wedding. I don't think I ever dreamed or daydreamed of my wedding. it just wasn't that big a deal for me. that's why I'm stumped to see people with their 'wedding book' that contains all the details of their perfect wedding. girls supposedly keep this book since their barbie days. I did play with barbies ok!! but I did hate being girly, and also hated cutesy girls with a vengeance. must have been jealous kua. hihihihihi. long story short, met mr right, then got married lah. me in the US, wedding to take place in malaysia. so... big headache?? actually I didn't even do any planning. family pau ka liao. something like this.

pa/ma: when?
me: grandma choose lah, err...during summer vacation!
pa/ma: reception hotel x boleh?
me: ok
pa/ma: wedding dress how?
me: it's ok. that one I handle.
pa/ma: reception dress how?
me: I beli kat sini. if not rent lah!
pa/ma: how many friends?
me: x tables

ok, that was pretty much it. the rest semua pakai standard. even the church program pa/ma went to ciplak someone else's. went back 2 weeks before wedding, beli cincin - yah, cincin needed superfast sizing okay! ambik gambar - damn ugly coz photo studio sucked. aiseh, not because I'm ugly ok! kihihihihi. faster register then kahwin! reception was like 60% relatives, most of which I only remember from receiving ang pows when I was a kecik monyet. grandma had to tell me what to call them - you know, when thanking the line of guests after the reception. another 30% parents' friends and business partners. 10% my friends lah. aiseh. my thinking has always been - wedding reception is for the parents! I just show up and play the part! so, what kind of food? decorations? band? all picked by parents. flowers? - aunty x handle. favours? - aunty y handle. so in the end, no hassle for me! only needed to shop for the dresses which was not too bad because lots of rentals as backup! so I guess it wasn't my dream wedding. because a dream wedding in my mind I did not have (jab at yoda). compared to the stress and time spent agonizing over all the details my friends went through, I got off easy! I doubt I would have changed much if I had handled the whole thing. I would not have shopped at 20 different bakers for the perfect cake. or 20 different hotels to pick the perfect reception place. etc. frankly ivory vs peach ribbons? calla lillies vs pink roses? satin vs silk? not much difference to me. another reason it would not have changed much is because I'm also a cheapskate! since I'm not terror like the fab 5, and some more I didn't keep my wedding book since my barbie days, I'd have to depend on someone else like colin cowie to make my wedding one of a kind. no need lah. don't like show-offs anyway. luckily my parents do not have horrible tastes! might have been different if they decided to hang up metallic streamers or something. but really, with the number of weddings the florists and hotels have gone through, just pick a respectable one, then don't fret! my parents also didn't fret ok! they only pakai standard boleh! I did not torture my parents over my wedding! at least I don't think so lah.

anyway, back to romber. the wedding went well with the only glitch being their pathetic dancing. hihihihihi but with the wedding planner, I didn't understand what the stress was. just say this or that, yes or no. one unexpected thing for me was the her wedding dress. she didn't decide on a vera wang, but immediately had it made by her hometown wedding gown tailor. that's amber for you! rob on the other hand plonked down tens of thousands of dollars on furnishings at a posh LA store - z gallerie - in what I think took less than 1 hour. he didn't put any thought into it all while saying how he is doing something special for amber. yeah, I furnished the place just as I thought you would like it. dude! there was no thinking! he basically pointed at rows of stuff and said wrap em up! and I think I saw ray and deana at their reception which was at atlantis. now, where were lynn and alex???? hmmm....
