cronism or just bad taste?
yet another atrocious 'beautification project'. in a way, I'm so happy I'm not there to see it for myself. concrete cylinders with hibiscus motifs?? and ugly aluminium hibiscus slapped on top. it actually does look pretty obscene from the photos. have they not learned anything from the costly plastic palm trees? saja nak jadi laughing stock is it?? so shameful! but malaysia is not the only place with these hideous fake trees leh. here's an excerpt from bbc about their sighting in tibet!
'Many pilgrims have walked for months from every corner of Tibet to visit this holy site... But today the Jokang is hemmed in by a sprawling modern city of concrete and glass. A mere stone's throw from the Jokang, the streets are lined with lurid plastic palm trees!'
apparently the life sized lighted plastic palm trees have also been sighted in the us, china, dubai, egypt and many other places. to add some beauty apparently. so we can't say that the mppj is the only one with bad taste. luckily there are no neon trees in boston. what they do have here are christmas lights wrapped around tree trunks and all their tiny branches. these lights are only switched on during winter when the leaves have fallen off. they look absolutely magical. I remember seeing palm trees wrapped with christmas lights in penang too. in front of some of the hotels. I think those look lovely! the mppj should choose to do that instead of using expensive fakes. and concrete is ugly! doesn't looking at concrete make you feel hotter? like it radiates heat or something. not to mention the glare reflecting off the aluminium sheets slapped on top. enough of these expensive and tasteless fakes. it only reeks of certain people lining their pockets...
