wah si 3rd rate hokkien lang
was reading hokkienlang's bolok. wah... hokkien blog. pretty funny but tau tniah reading it. because why? because I don't really understand hokkien lah. even though I'm penang eh hokkien lang. very pai seh. even when I was in my teens, my little cousins will tell me things like - 'cha meh wa hambeen.' I was like what the heck is hambeen? so sad so sad. until now I still remember that incident. so... back to hokkienlang's bolok. I kept reading this word over and over again, so what the heck is limpeh? limpeh say this, limpeh say that. this is when the talking cock dictionary comes in. so here it is.
LIM PEH KA LI KONG
Hokkien phrase literally meaning, "Let your father tell you..." or "Listen to your father". Used even when the speaker is not the addressee's father. It's a phrase which is designed to put you in your place - a subordinate position, naturally.
"Lim peh ka li kong, if you do like that, you sure kena hantam." (Listen to your father, if you carry on like that, you'll definitely be beaten up.)
not only that. talking cock also has a column called lim peh ka li kong. this means everyone knows this phrase lah, even non-hokkiens. what to do? pai seh ka beh si. beh kiu liao la
