blogebrities vs anonymity

thestar featured some femes bloggers yesterday. since, I'm not in malaysia atm, I can't tell how prominent the page was. but how can one stay anonymous after that? so many uncles and aunties reading the one star paper, how to stay anonymous? I blog in anonymity because I'm afraid lah. as you can read from the article, people tend to take on a 'blog persona' when blogging. they become much more outgoing and more importantly, they become very frank and very generous with their opinions. something like kennysia's disclaimer. if people who are close to me read my blog, fine, it's kinda freaky but ok. as long as they take it easy. but if people in my professional circle who don't know me well read it, it would be very weird. if you don't know someone well, reading their blog will undoubtedly bias your opinion of them. most blogs tend to show only one side of their owners.

take michaelooi. he comes across pretty much as a freaking jerk. but he is most probably a regular harmless dude. still I'm pretty amazed that he gets away with 'slandering' his colleagues. then there is the notorious spg. well, her face, and more is on her blog for all to see. and with all the coverage on the news, no wonder she is off in some other country for now. I'm surprised at how young she is. but I'm also a prude. anyway, I guess she doesn't mind the exposure. I on the other hand would be dead. if not from embarrassment, then from being killed by my parents. hey, my grandma even warned be against marrying a foreigner. imagine chronicling my exploits with foreigners. but anonymously? boleh lah! grandma won't know.

anyway, I blog anonymously because I'm a chicken. if people know you well enough, they will know when you're joking, exagerrating, of just plain being stupid on your blog. but if they don't know you that well, they may very well form an unfair opinion of you. most people, especially those that aren't used to blogs will not give you the benefit of the doubt. that's why people blog anonymously or semi-anonymously. a lot of blogs are not meant to be read by people who know the authors in real life. what if my friend finds out that I think she is mah fun? what use is blogging when you have to worry about it? doesn't mean people should blog irresponsibly. they just shouldn't feel pressured by the judging public.

anyway, here's a blogebrity listing. xiaxue is on the c-list. who knows how they come up with these listings? number of rss subscribers? I'll stick with the pps bunch. now to wait for the pps winners. I voted, so now I wait....
